advice on getting a new C&C group off the ground.(Indianapolis)
Hey, all so the bug has just gotten to the point where if I want to see C & C being played here in Indy, the current home of GenCon, I'm going to have to do it.
I have one or two people who've expressed interest, but are there any tips on the best way to advertise for this game? I've heard people say to advertise a game as an old school D & D type of game.
I have a Craigslist ad under groups. In it I let them know that it is super easy to pick up and play, bring back the feel of the original AD&D flexibility with the easy d20 mechanics. I also make mention that several of the simplified things from 5e were taken in general from C&C itself. And that you only need two inexpensive books to invest in rather than a lot of really expensive books. Basically, hit its strengths and tie it back to the familiar but improved. Keep it away from just folding into another OSR clone, which easily happens whenever OSR is mentioned to describe it. I have the same issues here in Oregon. Few players willing to depart from the "Sacred Three Games" (M:tG, WH40k, and D&D5th). There's always leaving a couple random NPC sheets behind at FLGs' too. ;)
Awesome, I didn't even consider Craig's list idea. I think I'm going to print up some notices/flyers and post at all the local game stores. We actually have a good number of those in Indy ( about half a dozen ).There are also several Meetup groups here in Indy.Has anyone had luck with those? Am considering making a page on Meetup as well, so folks can connect with me easier.
Perhaps run a demo game or two and some of the local game stores to start up interest. Advertise, and then see if any of the players want to play in a more regular game.
Just do it. if you need starter adventures down load the domesday Books 7 through 9.. plenty there to get you started.
You're right. I should just pull the trigger and see what happens.Even if only a couple people show, there are ways to work with that.
Two or three players each with one OR two PCs is a great group, fast and fun. Use the knights rolls here to see who's in your area and give a shout out on TLG site too.
Word of mouth is the best way to find players. You find a friend that brings a friend and soon you have a group. - or a bunch of new friends. Either way, it's good stuff.
